Longwater Tai Chi - Neigong
Neigong (pronounced Nei Gung) means "inner work" specific to Taoist internal martial arts (including Tai Chi) and meditation practice and involves the harmonisation of the bodies internal "cogs" to allow energy to flow in the most efficient manner. It prepares the body for an upgrade, making it stronger and more connected. Neigong looks at the whole and does not focus on healing primarily.
These days it is more common to see the meaning of both chi gung and nei gung integrated and generically called Chi Gung.
Longwater Tai Chi teaches the basics of this Neigong, developed by Bruce Frantzis, as an integral part of learning the movements of the Wu Style Short or Long Forms, and in the "Take a Dip" drop-in classes. We also teach the system in a more detail as a series of workshops.
Opening the Energy Gates™ Neigong
This set works primarily on creating correct body alignments that strengthen the joints whilst keeping tissue that supports them relaxed and alive, allowing the chi to flow freely through the body. From this you learn how to: release "blockages" stored in the body to increase your chi flow; connect the upper and lower body through correct weight transference and turning with Cloud Hands; activate the lower, middle and upper energy centres with the Swings; and release tension in the spine with the Spinal Stretch.
The Marriage of Heaven and Earth™ Neigong
This two-movement exercise is easy to learn for people of any age or fitness level. It is especially effective for mitigating repetitive stress injury and carpal tunnel, as well as easing back and spine problems. Within the movement you also learn how to pulse your joints, and the more advanced longevity breathing techniques. It can be practised standing or while sitting.
The next Heaven and Earth Level 1 workshop will be held from 9.30am to 1pm at the Downton Memorial Hall, cost £30 or £25 for repeat students.
