Join us for Energising Tai Chi Qigong!

Join us for 50-55 minutes of low-impact, energising exercise in this popular Tai Chi Qigong class. Moves are performed standing, (chairs are available if you need to sit for a while), there is no floor/mat work. Suitable for all age groups and suitable for Active Beginners.

This Tai Chi Qigong class will work with the enjoyable, flowing 'Shibashi Set 1' moves PLUS some aspects and moves from other Tai Chi Qigong Sets. With their roots in Tai Chi, these calming, enjoyable exercises are pleasant to perform and much simpler than the deep study of our traditional Tai Chi curriculum, while offering many of the benefits. The flowing movements are generally done to relaxing music and are repeated with instructions, so you don't have to remember a lot of detail and sequence. There are also occasions when we may stand (or sit) still for a while, to work on quietening the mind to explore the more subtle meditative and perceptive aspects of Tai Chi Qigong.

This form of exercise can help improve balance, flexibility, breathing, memory and general well-being, through releasing stress and tension.

Cost £10
Class led by Jane Launchbury, Senior Instructor Tai Chi Union of Great Britain.

About the Exercises

This class is based on 'Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi', which means 18 movements. With their roots in Tai Chi, these calming and enjoyable movements are very much simpler to follow than the traditional forms but still offer many of the benefits. The flowing movements are usually done to relaxing music, are simple to copy and are repeated with the instructor, so you don't have to remember a lot of instructions and sequence. The movements can help improve balance, flexibility, memory and general well-being through releasing stress and tension.

Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi Set 2 builds on Shibashi Set 1, but can also be learned by complete beginners. Set 2 works with the connection to Earth and allowing the Earth energy to naturally rise and support us. The movements of Set 2 are more challenging than Set 1, with more stepping, turning and balancing.

Come and study authentic Taijiquan with us!

The Masich Internal Arts Method (MIAM) Five Section Taijiquan program material is designed to be flexible and fun, ideal for beginners to get a well grounded introduction to traditional Tai Chi, who may then decide to take on the more difficult challenges of the full curriculum.

This term we will continue our study of the 24-step Yang style form, based on a thorough understanding of core principles. Learning to create correct alignment in the body, free the mind through breath and calm, and move intentfully are all part of authentive taijiquan (Tai Chi) practice. Part of this study requires we work with partners to develop greater sensitity to the subtle energies at play when we jion with the taiji process. None of our partner work is designed to be competitive.

Cost: £10
60 minutes of exercise.

Led by Gina Davenport, Instructor Tai Chi Union of Great Britain.
