We are happy to be affliated with Paul Houlton, who is an independent teacher based in the south of England.
Paul Houlton was introduced to tai chi (taijiquan) when he joined his first martial arts class in 2008 at the age of 31. This become a huge turning point in his life as he discovered the benefits of self-cultivation and a more healthy lifestyle.
In the next 12 years of training with his first teacher, Paul undertook a wide range of study - learning how to stretch properly; perform qigong exercises; tai chi hand and weapons forms - all whilst adapting to the discipline of life in the dojo.
Much of this initial training involved the self-defence and contact side of the arts, but Paul never felt fully comfortable with this. The health side however, particularly stretching, tai chi and qigong, really interested him. He took up yoga too and got a BSY diploma in Hatha yoga in 2014 and soon after started teaching classes.
His training also included learning bodywork therapy, and in 2015 he qualified to be a practitioner. This has helped enormously with the tai chi, giving a better understanding of how the body can and should move.
In 2016, Paul become a fully qualified tai chi and qigong instructor and has been running taijiquan and qigong shibashi classes in Bournemouth and Christchurch, Dorset UK.
Since 2019, Paul has been training with the teachers at Longwater Tai Chi. He is currently studying the Masich Internal Arts Method (MIAM) Five Section and traditional Yang style curriculum with indoor student Patrick Foley and deepening his understanding of the authentic qigong shibashi with Jane Launchbury.
Paul independently runs his own school in Bournemouth and can be contacted by email at
